At DoughHeads, we believe life's too short for boring doughnuts!

What started as a passion project for founder Anna has grown into one of Newcastle's most loved sweet spots, serving up handcrafted brioche doughnuts, delicious gelato, great coffee and shakes and a whole lot of personality.

After more than a decade of bringing seriously good doughnuts to Newcastle, Anna handed over the reins to new owners Matt and Shannon in 2026.

As a local husband-and-wife team, Matt and Shan are excited to build on everything that makes DoughHeads special, while bringing fresh ideas, new flavours and plenty of Big Dough Energy.

At the heart of the kitchen is our incredibly talented pastry chef, Kal, who has been part of the DoughHeads family for over 10 years. He's the creative genius behind our award-winning doughnuts, dreaming up delicious new flavours and making sure every doughie that leaves the kitchen is something special.

Together with our amazing team, we're proud to carry on the DoughHeads legacy while putting our own spin on the future.

Behind the scenes, it’s a hands‑on, from‑the‑ground‑up operation. We make as much as we possibly can ourselves - from dough and custards to icings, biscuit crumbles and fruit compotes. Every day starts early, with real ingredients, well‑worn benches and a team that genuinely loves getting stuck into the process.

There’s tasting, tweaking, a bit of trial and error, and usually a healthy layer of flour covering everything by the end. It’s not about perfection - it’s about care, creativity, and building something joyful from scratch, again and again.

At the heart of DoughHeads is a love of making things properly, having a bit of fun along the way, and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome. We believe joy is worth celebrating - sometimes loudly, quietly other times, and very often with something sweet in hand.
